Alfred Crawford Obituary

Alfred "Fred" Crawford, Jr.

1948 ~ 2024

Alfred "Fred" Crawford, Jr. was born on August 22, 1948 to Alfred and Afton (Rock) Crawford in Salt Lake City, Utah. He passed away on April 27, 2024 at the Huntsman Cancer Institute ICU.

Fred always loved learning new things. His studies at the University of Utah focused on fine arts but also later included computer animation and geology. At Salt Lake Community College, he studied graphic design and printing which led to his professional career as a silk screen printer.

As an artist, Fred was passionate about painting both on canvas and paper. His works were displayed in numerous solo shows at the Salt Lake Library, the Tivoli Gallery, the Bountiful Davis Art Center, and the Ogden Union Station. His paintings were also featured in many regional art shows and traveling art shows which resulted in their sales across the country.

Fred also enjoyed endurance sports. He first started running to help quit smoking but soon became an avid marathon runner. He ran both the Deseret News and St. George Marathons and the Canyonlands Half Marathon many times. He then turned to bicycling. For the past 30 years, he would ride 5-8 Century rides each year across Utah. His favorite events were long distance races where he rode Lotoja (Logan to Jackson Hole – 208 miles) eight times, the Death Valley 200 four times, and the Huntsman 140 six times.

Fred's other interests include playing guitar, riding and racing motorcycles, and composing "sonic events" on his analog synthesizers.

The family would like to thank everyone on the ICU team at Huntsman Cancer Institute for their excellent care in helping Fred's final journey.
